AtmoWorks is excited to welcome Phobos (aka David Thompson) to our growing family of artists. On his debut longform album "Darkness Within", Phobos has created a lush and textured soundworld that slowly moves between the multiple layers of the human psyche. David had this to say about the release.

"Darkness Within is my first new album release for around 9 years. Previously I had released 3 cassette albums and 2 CD albums using my real name. These albums were in the general melodic, sequencer based style. There were many reasons for the long break and not enough space to list them here.

During this period I had started to listen to the more ambient side of EM and in particular Steve Roach and Oophoi. These two artists had a really big effect on me and influenced my change of direction. Hence, Darkness Within was born. As the music was completely different to what had been before, I decided to work under a different name.

Of the album itself, well I believe there is a Darkness within us all and so I have tried to create, in sound, my journey from 'normality' to darkness and back again. I hope you like it."

"Darkness Within" is a remarkable first ambient recording. Slow, pulsing drones shift in and out of different phrasing, lyrically describing the journey without ever pointing the way. There are several recognizable "scenes" within this recording, yet each flows perfectly into the next to describe the whole.
