Pete Kelly AKA Igneous Flame, is a singular artist who walks his own path.
He strives to create ethereal, subtle yet powerful ambient music without pandering to trend or overt influence.

Since 2003, he has created a body of work containing 12 solo and collaborative releases. His catalogue contains polar opposites of ethereal, sonorous work as well as more difficult, unsettling material texture - his work has been played on New Age radio stations as well as having being reviewed in Industrial music magazines. He endeavours to create a sonic canvas containg a wide range of colour and texture, not being limited to any particular sub-genre.

He worked for a long time on his ambient material prior to releasing his first album,'Tolmon' in 2003 and has achieved significant critical acclaim and radio airplay since then. His albums have an esoteric and a spatial element. The former arising from his hyper-sensitivity and the latter from his interest in surround- sound techniques.

His considerable musical background and experience allow him to be highly discriminating, releasing albums that have seen a considerable amount of 'self-editing'. He enjoys collaborative projects, particularly relishing the role of Producer.

Igneous Flame is influenced by the natural world, mystery, beauty, dreams and silence. He feels that these things are present in his music.

Astra (2006)
'ASTRA', the 5th album by Igneous Flame, was created using electric guitar as the primary sound source - sculpted and transformed to create textural and tonal colours'. These were set against more recognisable melodies and chordal parts. The result is a unique and original album which draws on elements of 'traditional' ambient music (harmonically), but which has a 'modern' element due to the contemporary production techniques used.

Binaural Soundtracks (2005)
As well as the ambient material he creates under the ‘Igneous Flame’ moniker, Pete Kelly also worked as a ‘sound-artist’. This CD is a compilation of pieces he created for installations / gallery shows. They are constructed from binaural recordings which give a vivid spatial ‘capture’ of the original sources when played back on headphones. In most cases, the pieces were intended to be heard on cordless headphones, to be listened to in conjunction with looking at visual works / elements, they acted to ‘colour’ the experience for the listener / viewer. The pieces are loosely themed - in terms of the content of the source recordings employed. Some of the pieces have had the original sources heavily treated and processed for differing effect.

Flicker (2008)
Collaborative project with 'Achromus'. 'Flicker' is primarily tonal with an under-current of ethereal mystery and depth. Constructed from Achromus's synth textures and Igneous Flame's e-bow guitar lines and abstracted harmonic shapes, melodic phrases are woven around tonally shifting soundscapes. The album's dark luminosity shines throughout.

Halo (2008)
'Sister' release to 'Flicker', is a hypnotic, visceral and primarily textural long-form work, vivid in colour and dynamics, ranging from intensely industrial to pastoral with an underlying esoteric subtlety present throughout. A significant element of the album is the result of extensive sound-design and spatial processing, for which headphone listening is recommended.

AtmoWorks is proud to present the second of two limited download exclusives from veteran ambient composer Igneous Flame. This record, a collaborative work between Pete Kelly and Dean Richards (Disturbed Earth), is a deeply meditative journey.

A true collaborative work, this album was composed entirely of source material from Dean Richards' pedal harmonium. Layer upon layer of the processing that is the signature of the Igneous Flame sound were added, and the result is truly remarkable. As a added bonus, the download file contains two additional tracks (Opiate, Splendide) not available on the CD. These tracks are the result of some additional collaborative work between the two artists and are being made available for the first time anywhere.
